Peacocks produce £14 version of Kate Middleton?s engagement dress

We certainly aren?t surprised about this bit of news on The Telegraph: Peacocks get in on the 'engagement style' act with a replica of Kate Middleton's Issa dress. After Tesco's £16 version of Kate Middleton's 'engagement dress' sold out nationwide in under an hour last week, it was only a matter of time before other high street retailers followed suit. Not to be outdone, budget high street chain Peacocks have today launched their replica of Middleton's royal blue Issa dress costing just £14.

Made from polyester, the dress, which will be available in sizes eight to 18, features three-quarter length sleeves and a cinched waist, and bears a striking resemblance to the £400 creation which Middleton wore to announce her royal engagement. Peacocks Head of Ladieswear, Antonella Bettley said: "What girl wouldn't want to look like Kate? We are delighted to offer customers a version of this iconic dress at a fraction of the price."
Peacocks expect the dress to be an instant sell-out, and as an ode to Kate Middleton's pre-engagement nick name, its customer service branch has set up the 'Waity Katie': a waiting list dedicated to the dress in order for customers to avoid disappointment. The dress doesn't promise to find women a prince to marry, but should, Bettley hopes, make them feel "every inch a princess whether they choose to wear it to a Christmas party, or whilst dropping the kids off to school."

Since Middleton attended a press conference on November 16 to announce her engagement to Prince William, the high street has been busy cashing-in on the demand to emulate her elegant style. From jewellery chain H Samuel offering its version of Middleton's sapphire and diamond engagement ring - which belonged to the late Princess Diana - for £179, to the £16 dress produced within a week by Tesco, the public desire to buy into a fashionable slice of what Kate Middleton wears shows no sign of waning.
