Deep-fried pretzels

Ingredients:

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon CRISCO all-vegetable shortening or 1 tablespoon CRISCO Stick
- 6 tablespoons cold water
- CRISCO Shortening or CRISCO Stick for deep frying
- Coarse salt

Preparation:

Step 1: Combine flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in Crisco with a pastry blender or 2 knives.

Step 2: Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until dry ingredients are moistened and dough can be gathered into a ball. Knead gently a few times.

Step 3: Pinch off pieces of dough and shape into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball between hands to form a 10-inch rope.

Step 4: Form each rope into a pretzel shape. Set on waxed paper. Heat Crisco to 365ºF in a deep saucepan or deep fryer.

Step 5: Fry 3 pretzels at a time in hot Crisco for 3 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 6: Drain on paper towels; sprinkle with coarse salt.
