Feeding the hungry, one pack at a time?
Hello all! I hope you’re having a fantabulous Thursday! I did NOT want to get out of bed this morning….it’s sooo warm! So finally, after a delightfully hot shower, I was off to the WIC department to start my volunteer work. I was a little apprehensive as to what I should expect, but it turned out really well. I learned a lot, met some great people, got some fantastic advice….and that’s only the first day! I can honestly say that when I walked out of there, I felt like a better person…even though it was only for a few hours. I just felt….good. I never thought I’d enjoy doing work for free, but I guess when it’s in an area that’s really important to me, the money just doesn’t matter. (My mom probably fell out of her chair as she reads the words she’s been trying to drill into my head for years!) I came home to feed the puppers, then I headed to my favorite relaxation place….Books-A-Million. (It’s only relaxing when I’m not actively searching for a particular book…) I brought my Food, Inc book with me, bought a yummy tea, (I’m a sucker for blueberry! I get it from my mama.) and read to my heart’s content. Then I mozied around the cooking/nutrition shelves, and found this number… I have seen this book before, but never actually heard any reviews on it. Then I saw it on another blog and became re-intrigued…especially now with reading Food, Inc. Have you read this before? I’d love to read some of your reviews! I had to just purchase it because I had to be somewhere at 5:00….on base for a farewell to one of the pilots and his family. This pilot’s wife is a very close friend of mine, so this is when I’m reminded of the downsides of military and moving. I also spotted this do-gooder treat at the register. They donote over 50% of profits to support 7 areas of critical need across the globe. Now, granted this was a $2 pack of gum so I basically just donated about a dollar…but hey, if everyone bought one pack of gum?…That’d make a huge difference. So of course I had to do my part. I’m sure I got some crazy looks in the cafe part of Books a Million as I took pictures of a book, a tea canister, and a pack of gum…but whatever. They just aren’t in with the Glow! I came home to a big ol’ package from ma mere sitting on the doorstep! And what was inside? Along with a bunch of other surprises, instructions on cutting a POM! She knows me so well. So guess what I’m doing tomorrow!! Oh yes! Cut the POM I shall! Final squash recipe tomorrow! I have no idea what it will be yet. But I’ll figure it out. Then we move on to POW 2! I also have no idea what that will be, but I’ll figure that out too….no worries! Answer to yesterday’s Nutrition Question: The two pigments primarily responsible for the color variations we see in meat are myoglobin and oxymyoglobin. Myoglobin produces that reddish-purple color seen in beef. Then when meat is exposed to oxygen, the myoglobin produces oxymyoglobin, giving the meat a bright red color. Off to play some Wii Golf with the pilot! Goodnight! Michelle related searches : Feeding Hungry
