Even though the harvest season is coming to an end, I can still find plenty of locally grown fruits and vegetables in California's farmer markets and farm stands. As I'm from the Midwest, I understand what a luxury it to be able to select and buy fresh produce anytime of the year.

Despite the availability, I still find myself eating less veggies during the colder months where I favor hot foods and protein. That's just what my body craves, yet I know I should continue to eat more balanced meals.

To ensure that I get plenty of raw veggies into our my diet, I finally bought a new juicer. The Breville Juicer came from Chef's Catalog, and thanks to the gift card from BlogHer Food, I was able to buy it with a few bucks off. The Breville is by far the fanciest juicer I've owned. It extracts the liquid out with little waste and the pulp is very dry. BJ was impressed with the heavy duty 850 watts of power. When you turn it off, it makes a soft shoosing sound like a jet engine landing. And the best part, the Breville is quiet and doesn't shake the counters like my old juicer did. This one is going to stay on the counter for everyday use.

Currently, I'm just mixing my own juices with whatever fruits and veggies I have in the fridge. I discovered that I lurve beet juice with some carrots, an apple, half a lime and a wedge of ginger. BJ hasn't tried any juices yet but I will make him some frothy OJ this weekend. And maybe sneak in a carrot or two.
