Poori (Deep Fried Indian Flatbread) ????

Presenting to you a favorite of MANY indian people – POORI – a deep fried Indian bread that is mostly eaten for breakfast, but is also made for an evening snack. I don’t have memories of my mom making pooris in our household, but in Kingsley’s place it looks like it was a regular to the table. So when I headed to the kitchen to make some pooris he was smiling ear to ear and was excited about this deep fried definitely bad for your health food.


Ingredients:



All purpose flour – 2 cups
Water – 1 cup
Pinch of Salt
Oil for deep frying – in other words, a generous amount!

Mix the flour and salt and knead the flour with water into a slightly stick dough. Place in a bowl and let it rest for 15mins. When you are ready to make your pooris, roll out golf ball size balls into a circular disc. You might need some flour to help with the process (sticky dough!)


Deep fry the discs until slighty brown. To make your poori all puffy, press the puris lightly in the oil when it is frying.


Drain on absorbent paper and serve hot with some curried potatoes or chana masala.
