Single Cream or Milk?

By Kitchen Goddess (in training!) (Visit website)

Unfortunately no new recipes today! Last night I had the luxury of being cooked for! It was my Spring term Law Ball held at Colwick Hall in Nottingham, so no budgeted, health conscious student grub, instead a three course meal!

The first two courses were average to say the least...but the dessert certainly made up for it...

The menu consisted of Tomato and Mozarella Bruschetta to start! Which was, unadvernturous to say the least, but still tasted good. For mains we had Chicken with a Mushroom and Cafe au Lait gravy, and steamed veg with roast potatoes. Again rather unadventurous. Last year I had 3 hall balls, and 2 law balls, and this is the 2nd law ball of this year, and I think on all but ONE occassion we have had chicken with some sort of gravy and steamed veg/roast potatoes. We are taken to beautiful venues, and the food just doens't match up!

The veggie menu looked delish however! It was a roast mediteranean veg tart! Yum yum yum!

By the time the dessert cam round, we were all relatively uninterested with the food and the wine had been flowing! First jugs were popped on the table, soon followed by the cheesecake. Naturally one of my friends assumed the jugs were of cream for the dessert. So on it went. The jug was passed round, again poured the 'cream' on top, but soon suspicion arose.

"Isn't cream a bit thicker than that?!" Said the third person to receive the jug...and the debate ensued! I was unfortunately COMPLETELY oblivious to all this and was mid-pour! I had fallen for it to...I had poured MILK on my cheesecake!

I picked up my plate and watched the watery white stuff slosh around my plate! Hardly appetizing.

Nonetheless, my two mates tucked into their milky cheesecake ADAMENT it was single cream! Being food-buffs I don't think they wanted to admit defeat!

It did make me think though...maybe I should start experimenting with milk instead of cream! Afterall it's a cheaper alternative, and as a student I love anything cheap!!!

But then again...maybe not. I don't ever want milky cheesecake again!
