Tamarind Rice or Pulihara or Pulihora
Tamarind rice a.ka. Pulihora,Puliyodhara,Puliyodharai or Pulihara (Puli means Tamarind) is often made as naivedyam for gods on all festivals and served to people as prasadam.
It is made on all auspicious occasions and this is also a big hit with all my friends and colleagues. The making time is about 15 ? 20 mins. Procedure 1)Take about 3 table spoons of oil in a pan and heat on a low flame. 2)Add peanuts and fry them till they are brown. 3)For seasoning, add 1 teaspoon of channa dal, 1 teaspoon of urad dal and 1 tea spoon of mustard seeds and a small piece or powdered asafetida. 4)Fry them till they are light brown in colour. 5)Add sliced green chillies, sliced ginger and curry leaves and fry for a minute. 6)Add 2 teaspoons of red chilli flakes and mix well. 7)Add 3 table spoons of tamarind paste, turmeric powder, salt as per your taste and little water. 8)Cook for 2 mins and mix freshly cooked rice. 9)I generally pressure cook the rice with optimum amount of water. Tasty and hot and tangy tamarind rice is now ready to be served. For people who like a sweet tinge can add 1 teaspoon of jaggery to the tamarind paste while cooking. Hope you enjoy making it and eating it as much as I do. related searches : Tamarind
