Arisi Paruppu Sadham

Ingredients :

Rice -- 1 cup (Preferably Sona masoori )
Thuvar /Thoor dal -- 1/4 cup
Salt -- to taste
Tomato -- 1 no, cubed
Onions -- 1/2 no. , Finely chopped
Green chilly --  2 nos. ,slit open (optional )
water -- 2 1/2 cups

For seasoning :

Oil --  2 tsp
Mustard seeds -- 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds -- 1/2 tsp
Hing -- a big pinch
Curry leaves -- a sprig
Dry red chilli -- 1 no, broken to halves



Method :

Soak the rice and dhal for minimum 10 minutes. ( atleast soak the dhal ..)  Take a pressure cooker and heat adding the oil. Add the mustard seeds when hot and pop open .. Then add the dry red chilli , cumin seeds ,hing ,curry leaves one by one and temper it.Followed by onions and tomatoes. Combine to cook well. Drop in the slit opened green chillies and scald well. Now add the rice and dhal together with the measured water. Mixwell. Check the salt. Combine well once again. Cover and cook for 3 whistles... Open and garnish with coriander leaves..
