Bar menu par excellence….!

By What I Had For Dinner Tonight (Visit website)

I have been a member of St Georges Hill Lawn Tennis club since I was a child, and tonight, being a beautifully warm spring evening I decided to go and have dinner there. They have a lakeside terrace with swans and ducks (with ducklings in tow!) and lovely grand wooden tables and chairs, and it is a lovely experience.

I was going on my own, but got bored after a few minutes so rang round and persuaded my old friends Anna and George and their little daughter Georgia to come up and join me.

After alot of faffing around whether we were going to go Alakart or Bar Menu we thankfully decided on the latter (twas my shout) and from then we were all of us quite amazed by the quality of what we got.

We all shared a lovely, fresh Greek-styled salad to start, with olives, feta, onions and a lollo lettuce to start. Very crunchy and very well made.

I then opted for the hot coconut (there’s a surprise!) flavoured rice, encased in a cold (very clever) smoked salmon and prawn tower with lemon and lime over the top, Anna had the same and George had a wok-of-the-day which was a delicious, if slightly sweet hot chicken chili concontion. It was all beautifully presented…very artistic and tasted very light (I discovered after it was the  ‘light option’ and 500 calories ! Daughter, as befits her age, ordered some unspeakable chicken shiite with chips…!

For pud we all (other than daughter who this time ordered Ice-cream shiite!) shared a Mint chocolate flavoured, biscuit based ‘Bavarois’ (..nope, me neither!) which was a work of art. Presented with chocolate sticks, and a dramatic swirl of strawberry slop, it tasted excellent, until daughter, who by this time had had enough shiite and wanted to try something decent, stuck her fingers in the thing, licked them and pronounced the thing tasted of toothpaste. She was right !

Booze was a jug (first of the year….MANY more to come) of Pimms No 1, with full botanical accoutrements and, after my vicious complaints last year….FRESH mint. Yay !
