Countdown to China trip

By Vintage Mixer (Visit website)

Sometimes it feels like the more we try to plan our travels the less things work out.  Yet when we don't plan things just seem to fall into place.  We tried and tried to visit my sister, who lives in China, last year but could never work it out.  We had resigned to the fact that we probably weren't going to be able to visit when this year, my parents decided to share some frequent flyer miles with us.  And within weeks we were ordering our visas and dreaming of Chinese food. Now we are just days away from our trip.

After several trips overseas I've definitely come to understand that it is always best to have only general plans and sites you want to visit, then allow room for flexibility and the unforeseen adventure.  I've visited too many great places and eaten at too many outstanding restaurants that actually weren't on our 'must see' list, that now I just make plans to not have plans.

The photo above is from my sister's city in China.  Known for its Spring weather, Kunming is one of the more beautiful large cities of China.  While we're there we'll also be traveling to an ancient village in the Chinese countryside and spending a couple of days in Beijing.  I look forward to telling you all about it when I'm back.  I may be able to write a few post while I'm gone but I have some very amazing women who will be guest blogging here while I'm on the other side of the world.  So, look forward to post from Tiffany and Food Finery, Barbara from Barbara Bakes, Emily from Is this really my life, and Jenn from Delightful Delicacies.  I'm so excited about their posts that I may be checking in on my own blog!

Also, if you have any questions about China, traveling in China, or food in China, please post a comment and I'll try and explore some answers.  Or if you have any recommendations, I would appreciate those as well.
