GEM: Make Every Week Earth Week
As we approach the 40th anniversary of Earth Day (April 22nd in the United States), more and more folks recommend observing Earth Week instead. The original Earth Week was also in 1970, but only in Philadelphia, with the thought that the environment was too big of an issue to fit into one day.
Well, isn't the environment too big of an issue to fit into one week? I often try to write about food and the environment in this blog, and think about these issues nearly every day. And that way I can act on them, every day and every week. So make every week Earth Week, in some small or big way. It's an odd segue to my topic for tomorrow - the most commonly grown crop in the world, arguably a scourge of human health, a destroyer of waistlines and enslaver of peoples, molder of world history and environmental wastrel.
