Holy cow?s milk!

By Beek Eats! (Visit website)

I haven?t been quite honest with you all about my whereabouts and happenings in college lately. While I do consistently avoid the dessert,  cereal, and bread ?bars? in the dining hall  and usually skip ?family meal? altogether?eating nothing but boiled eggs and whatever usable trim I can find of raw vegetables lying around the kitchen?I also have my moments of indulgence come the weekend. (Ahem, especially during all of those NYC trips I talk about.)   What else am I supposed to do?  Sometimes a girl just needs to sink her teeth into some real carbs, and eat something sweet besides a piece of dark chocolate or a Vita-mix size blender of protein ice cream.  As much as I enjoy a protein cookie consisting of only protein powder, peanut powder, and cocoa powder mixed with water; sorry babes, it will never compare to a triple chocolate chip cookie.  There?s simply no denying a girl real food.

I surprise even myself with the damage I can do when bowls of ice-cold churned heavy cream, eggs, and sugar are set before me.  You realize what I?m getting at right?  ICE CREAM.  Ice cream is only one of many amongst the array of beautiful food and drink I’ve consumed in the last five months, but I just can’t fit everything I’ve held back on in one post.  Until I can, please enjoy my five months in ice cream.

Vegan ice cream during my NYC blogger meet-up at Lula?s Sweet Apothecary.  Whoever said ice cream couldn?t be made vegan was seriously disturbed.  Topped with chocolate sprinkles, this cup was basically saying out loud, ?I am creamy and delicious.  And vegan.?

Vanilla custard after a Yankees game at Shake Shack, eaten in Central Park. Best ?gourmet? (but not really) burger and custard.  And very non-vegan.

Mudpie ice cream on a cake cone in Greenwich, Connecticut.  I occasionally work over the weekends at a country club in the kitchen in Greenwich and after a hard day?s work nothing goes down smoother than licking an ice cream cone.  Oh, and by the way, Greenwich is perfection in a town.  I?m just saying.

A cup of coffee frozen yogurt at Holy Cow in Red hook, NY a few miles from my school.  With chocolate sprinkles, naturally.  I also tried a few samples of their homemade ice cream- OMG, some of the best ice cream I?ve ever tasted.

TWO, yes, TWO (I ate two damnit) Mochi ice cream?basically Japanese ice cream (I think this was green tea flavored) held in pounded sticky rice.  Why are we not making these in my Cuisines of Asia class??!  This was straight up, bangin delish.

Finally, a simple swirl of soft serve on a cake cone with chocolate sprinkles from an ice cream truck outside of Grand Central Station minutes before getting on a train back to Poughkeepsie.  With two great girls.  Besides having to be back in class at 6:45 the next morning, it doesn?t get much better than that.

When you take pictures of everything you eat (like I do), the times you indulge seem much more frequent than in actuality.  While it may look (judging by the collection of pictures of delicious food forming on my laptop) like I eat like a fatty 100% of the time, I really don?t.  Sure, it?s still hard to tell how much I?ve eaten half the time, and what I should and shouldn?t eat, yadidahdidah, but I?m learning to just go with the flow.  Plan less.  After all, you never know when you might stumble upon the-best-thing-you-ever-ate, or when your driving companion might offer to buy you an ice cream cone.  When in doubt, always say yes.  You?ll be glad you did.

Q: What are your rules of indulgence?  Do you plan?like one day out of the week, or do you let indulgence fall where it may?  Maybe you just say ?what the hell, I do what I want!?  I used to plan my splurges out to a tee, but the days I ended up planning, I never would be in the mood to eat pizza, or whatnot.  Or the day would be ruined, because I didn?t eat the ?right? thing the night before.  I still save up for certain items.  If I know some really, really good food is coming my way, I will strategically save up and work extra hard, just to make that one indulgence completely worth it. :)   Thoughts?  Opinions?  Tell me!  Favorite flavor/version of ice cream?

Holy geeze, I love food.  Listen to me.  Ridiculous.  Have a good night everybody and a Happy 4th of July!  Eat some damn ice cream this weekend.

x?s and o?s!
