How to decorate a Christmas tree

By Magic Bunny (Visit website)

This is my first time I'm putting up a Christmas tree. I was inspired by a Christmas wreath I wanted to buy on eBay (but the seller wouldn't ship internationally).

I chose colourful baubles in traditional christmas colours, bright colours and Christmas pastels in matt and shiny finishes. These will be arranged in a spiral pattern around the tree and everything else will go in between.

I'm using green twist ties to secure my decorations on the tree, coz let's face it, letting lights and garlands freestyle is an endless arranging task and you can never get the decorations to sit where you want with a string.

I've started with the lights first so that the wires are concelead, plus, you'd be able to see the lights when they're switched on from anywhere in the tree.

Then I've draped my garland around the same spiral path around the tree as the lights to further conceal the wires.

The colourful baubles are next - gather 3 at a time using a twist tie and secure them onto branches forming a spiral pattern around the tree. If any lights end up behind the baubles, peek them out to the side and if the garland is in the way, flick it over to the side, up or down and out of the way.

Once that's done, add your novelty decorations in between the spirals and round the bottom. I've chosen modern and some arty but traditional decorations - hang 2 dozen candy canes and finish tree off with silver strips for a very Christmas-y feel.
