Psychic Thoughts, Unschooling Follow-Up, Bye To Summer Fruit, Books or Magazines
Hi Friends! How's your day been? I've been busy as usual but apparently not too busy to have some psychic thoughts come into my head. I couldn't make this up, so bear with me.
I have posted before how I am psychic, and today's example just highlights what I was trying to explain. This morning as I was brushing my teeth I looked up and noticed my smoke detector. The exact thought I had was, "God, it would be a royal bitch if that thing's batteries ever die because it's on a 14 foot ceiling and I'd have to haul my step ladder up my 4 story house and then hope I could actually reach the smoke detector because I don't have a real ladder." I finished brushing my teeth and went about my day. I came home and about an hour later, heard beeping coming from the smoke detector. It's batteries were dying! Just like in my psychic premonition, I had to haul the stepladder up 4 flights of stairs from the garage, stood on it on my tip toes, thankfully had a 9-volt battery on hand, and changed the battery. I told you, I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. Of all things to be psychic about though, knowing when one's smoke detector batteries are about to die doesn't really top the list of Great Premonitions or anything...hah! From yesterday's post about my Unschooling Park Day pictures and your preferences if you were to re-do your education as a child, many of you said that you liked things just the way they were, and that you really thrived on the structure of school. But many of you said that you'd love to have more freedom to just learn from the world as your classroom; to experience a more organic and free-flowing form of education. It was great to read your thoughts. A few commenters asked me how I heard about Unschooling. Well, unschooling is sort of on the same continuum of attachment parenting, gentle parenting, child led weaning, homebirthing, nursing toddlers, the whole "alternative" parenting scene. Ya know, "crazy" stuff. But the funny thing is that if we go back in history to anything before maybe 1800ish, most everyone was unschooled or homeschooled. Parents educated their own children. And the human race survived, imagine that. And it wasn't alternative, it was just normal. I've posted Here about some of my Parenting Choices and philosophies. These choices are definitely not for everyone, that's for sure, and that's fine. Diversity, an open mind, and a non-judgmental attitude towards the choices that others make is what makes the world go round. And as I said yesterday, she can go to traditional school any time she wants. I want her to be in control of her own destiny and education as much as possible. You were all making me hungry with your faves! Today I made a fresh batch of Mango Ginger Maple Tofu And I dug into the last Pluots of the season. Sniff, sniff. So sweet and juicy. All gone til next year. But I stocked up on some pears And found on-sale strawberries 1 pound for $1.50! Nice. My new issue of Yoga Journal arrived. And although it's not a book, it helps me unplug more, and read more real books or magazines as I mentioned I wanted to do. And thanks for the continued book recommendations from This Post Tip of the Day: Did you see Who Won the $50 Shopping Spree Give Away from America's Nutrition? Dessert: Vegan Fudge-10 Minute No-Bake Recipe, Gluten/Soy/Tree-Nut Free It's rich, decadent, fudgy, wonderful. It just happens to be vegan and soy/nut/gluten free. Questions 1. Do you ever use the word Hump Day for Wednesday? My 2nd grade teacher introduced me to the concept but I know some adults who have never heard Wednesday called Hump Day. 2. Do you prefer books or magazines? As I said recently, my pleasure reading from books has so fallen off the deep end and I long to get that back, but in the mean time, I do enjoy magazines because I feel like if I only have 10-15 minutes here or there, at least I can get lost in a magazine for that amount of time whereas with books, I have a hard time bouncing in for only 10 minutes. I prefer longer time stretches for book reading, but since that doesn't seem to happen for me lately, I seem to do better reading magazines. 3. Is there any summer fruit you're sad to say goodbye to? What fall foods, or fruits & veggies are you looking forward to? I'm sad to say goodbye to nectarines, peaches, and pluots, but cheap apples, squash, and some pumpkin things excite me. I'm not as much of a pumpkin addict as others, but I do enjoy it this time of year in moderation. 4. Are you psychic at all? Or do you have good ESP, are you intuitive, are you in tune with thoughts or things that can't be explained in black and white? I think that some people are definitely more gifted in this way than others. That's just how they're wired. However, I think that the more we pay attention to nuances, to subtle clues, the more we tap into that place within ourselves and see the world with more careful and observant eyes and really try to sense and feel what's going on in the world around us, the more we can hone what natural abilities we do have.
