Rava Upma-South Indian Recipe
Upma is a South Indian breakfast dish. It is usually made with refined wheat grains, which Indians generally call suji and is also known in the south of India as rava. A variety of upmas can be made with either vermicelli and thick, brown wheat grains. Upma is easy to prepare. For taste, vegetables may be added. Wealthier households may garnish upma with deep fried cashew nuts, while others may garnish with fried groundnuts. U need 1 cup Rava / Sooji (Semolina) 25 gms dried Cashew Nuts 25 gms dried Raisins 25 gms dried dates 25 gms dried berries 1 inch Ginger chopped 3 Green Chillies slit sideways 2 shallots sliced 1 tsp Mustard Seeds Salt to taste 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder 4 tblsp ghee Few curry leaves How to make rava upma: Heat 2tblsp ghee saute cashews,raisins and other dried fruits of ur choice and set side. In the same ghee fry rava ,on a moderate heat, stiring constantly to light brown color and set aside. Now heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds and allow them to splatter. Add sliced shallots ,curry leaves , ginger and green chilies. Sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add turmeric and salt to taste. Now add 3 cups of water and let it boil. Add the fried rava to it stirring constantly till it becomes little thick. Take off from the heat when rave is cooked well. Serve hot with ripe bananas. related searches : Rava
