There are quite a few Indian restaurants on Roundhay Road that we haven’t tried yet, so we thought we’d work our way down starting with Saffron.
First Impressions:
Saffron on right on Roundhay Road, there area couple of parking spaces out front but we had to park round the corner and walk. The first thing that caught my eye when I walked in were the fancy lighting effects behind bar – looked a bit like a school disco! The restaurant has a clean and modern feel, it was maybe a bit cold inside but to be fair it was a freezing night! A bonus for me was the large widescreen TV showing the footy, that might not be what eveyone wants when their eating – but it gets extra marks from me!

The Food:
We stuck with our tradition of ordering the mixed starter for two (pic). It scored good marks for both quality and quantity – particular mention has to go to the sheek kebab, which both of us thought was possibly the best we’ve had.
I went for the Saffron Special Balti, the flavour didn’t really hit me at first but then it built up nicely, I really enjoyed it. Carrie opted for the brilliantly named ‘Leon?s Special’ – named after a regular customer apparently – it was quite dry but had a lot of flavour, a bit like a Karahi.
The Essentials:
The portion sizes of both curries and rice were generous, we were both very full when we’d finished.
The service was OK – a bit of a struggle with the language barrier but we got there in the end.
The food tasted great and was good value for money.
