Adventures in Panama, Part Dos

By Food Lovers Like Me (Visit website)

While visiting Panama last week, we had the opportunity to see El Valle de Anton, a geological wonder that is nestled in the second largest volcano crater in the world. I cannot describe to you how beautiful this area is--all I know is that I felt like someone had dropped me in Shangri-La.

We spent the early part of the day hiking up steep hills so we could go ziplining--literally swinging through the rainforest on cable lines at heights that made me dizzy. You see, I am afraid of heights!:) But I did not want to look like a punk in front of my family, so I swallowed hard and zipped along. I was so glad I did: the rainforest, the waterfall, the beautiful butterflies, it was all such a rush! Here's a few pictures:

Here's my daughter swinging through the rainforest (with a guide there for safety's sake--I'm not totally crazy ya know:)

Check out this view from above. We visited during the DRY season...imagine how much more lush it would all look in the rainy season!

As a reward for all that hard work, our guide whisked us away to this incredible restaurant in El Valle called La Casa De Lourdes (http://www.lacasadelourdes.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=23&Itemid=33) where we had lunch on the outside terrace. I don't know what I enjoyed there more: the incredible scenery ...

...or the fantastic food. I think I'll call it a draw! Here are some photos of the food:

Mesclun salad with manchego cheese, dates and walnuts, dressed with dijon mustard vinaigrette
Grilled corvina (sea bass) over mixed vegetables (eggplant and red peppers)

Grilled scallops with a corn remoulade

Fish and corn soup with guava punch

I LOVED our visit to Panama, and I know we're going back someday for sure!
