Arva Flour Mill
Have I mentioned how fortunate I am to be living in Southwestern Ontario? Yes, I'm sure I have; but I need to say it again. I am so fortunate to be able to live here in London--especially with the Arva Flour Mill just around the corner.
I remember watching the "100-Mile Challenge" on the Food Network which was filmed in Mission, B.C. and feeling terrible that they weren't able to locate wheat to produce local flour. It definitely made the challenge that much more difficult for them. It was eventually found but, again, it wasn't in large quantities. Here, in London, we have our very own flour mill just north of the city in Arva. And, the wheat that they mill is grown just 2 miles north of the store. How convenient is that? In the store there are several varieties of flour available (and yes, it's certified organic flour!): cake and pastry flour (white and whole wheat)hard wheat flour (white and whole wheat)spelt flour (white and whole wheat)cracked wheatcream of whole wheat (one of my favourites for breakfast!)white branred branspelt bran This is such a great place to visit. I go there quite a bit actually. You just can't go wrong--it's traditional, it's a beautiful place to visit and the staff are really friendly. As an added plus, my daughter always loves to stop and see the ducks on our way out. 2042 Elgin St. Arva, Ontario 519-660-0199
