Christmas music

By G is for gluten. (Visit website)

This year I've been finding it really hard to get into the Christmas spirit. The weather is pretty warm, sure, that's Christmassy.
We've got our decorations up. I've eaten Speculaas, christmas cake, christmas spicy nibble and decorated with flowers as per tradition.

But it still doesn't feel quite right.

You see, it's not quite Christmas without "Den Damble." That's Glen Campbell by the way. My sister couldn't pronounce his name when she was little - and Den Damble just stuck.

Way back in the day he was singing Christmas songs on the radio, so Mum taped it. That tape has been part of our Christmas celebrations ever since I, and many of my siblings can remember. Sadly a couple of years ago we lost the tape.

So, while I feel sort of christmassy, December doesn't really have that exciting spine tingling sensation to it that I used to feel when I was little. When Den Damble sang 'Little toy train', 'Christmas is for children or 'Pretty Paper' it WAS Christmas.

Tomorrow I am determined to find that tape. Or I might just rig a computer up to some speakers and blast the YouTube videos all over the house.
I'm that desperate for Christmassy feelings. After all, we've only got seven sleeps to go!

To further get me [and you] in the spirit of Christmas, I'm going to list my top 10 all time favourite Christmas songs.
This is going to be hard.

1: O holy night. Wow, listen to the second verse, the words are SO great! Not to mention the tune. It's definitely the best carol ever. By the way, that link I posted? My sisters would beat those girls butts at this song, they're really good. :)

2: O come all ye faithful. Every Christmas we have to wait until 6:30 [or is it 7?] before we are allowed to play it REALLY loud. Come on everyone! We want presents!

3: Joy to the world! Jesus loved us so much that He came into the world and limited himself to human form so that He could go through unspeakable pain to save people who had turned their back on Him. If that isn't a reason to be joyful, I don't know what is!

4: The Christmas song. We always sing over the last line with "and so I'm offering this simple phrase, to kids from one to 96" we alter the age every year. This year my Grandma is 96.

5: Hark the herald angels sing. "God and sinners reconciled" - that's why Jesus came! It also reminds me of all the angels singing to the Shepherds, it must have been an amazing sight!

6: Silent night. I like it. "Son of God, loves pure light." *smiles*. "Jesus lord at thy birth." *more smiles.*

7: Handel's Messiah, Trust in God. I love the song, listen to it!

8: Handel's Messiah, actually I just really like Handle's messiah. It's all from the Bible, so whenever I hear the words my heart soars. Some favs: "The trumpet shall sound," "I know that my redeemer liveth," and "why do the nations." Umm... yeah, I like opera.

9: Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

10: White Christmas. Particularly this version, we watched Home alone last night. I love that movie. Funny how I like it, even thought I've never had a white Christmas.

What are your favourite Christmas songs?
