Kosu-Menthya Palya

Ingredients:

Moong Dal : 1 cup (yellow split)
Cabbage : small sized (chopped)
Green peas : ¼ cup
Green Chili: 2-3 nos
Methi : 8-10 strands (finely chopped)
Turmeric : ½ tspn
Niger Seed powder /Uchellu (gurrellu) powder: 2tspns
Popularly used in North Karnataka Kitchens

(It is widely used as a nutritious Bird feed. Gastric or intestinal cramps, diarrhea, neuralgia, cough hysteria, skin inflammation.
and boils. Niger seeds have anodyne, narcotic and mydriatic properties, employed as a sedative in nervous infections. In veterinary practice used as urinary sedative. Has antioxidant properties.)

Water
Salt To taste
Oil


For Seasoning:
Mustard seeds ? ½ tsp
Jeera : ½ tspn
Curry leaves ? 2 strands
Asafoetida - a pinch
Oil

Method:

1) ?Wash the veggies and rinse in salt and turmeric water for a while, the reverse osmosis process helps remove some of the impurities and chemical sprayed on them.?**

2) Now take the Moong Dal cabbage and peas in a Microwave safe bowl, add a tblspn of oil, ¼ cup water, Turmeric, salt and mix well. Microwave high for 7-8 mins.(Till water evaporates)

3) Add the green chilies and mix well. Microwave for 4-5 mins (Till all the ingredients are cooked)

4) In an a pan take 2-3 tblspns oil and temper with mustard,Jeera, curry leaves & asafetida ;add the chopped methi leaves and sauté ,till its cooked.Now add the microwaved contents and mix well and remove from heat.

5) Add Uchellu powder and mix well.

6) The Cabbage Palya ready to eaten!
