Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen
By now most of you would have heard that a new fried chicken place in town is giving KFC a (chicken) run for their money. Popeyes is bringing its trademark Cajun flavour to its fried chicken and a variety of seafood.  I've been there several times and vouch for the signature fried chicken, coleslaw, biscuit and mashed potatoes. The only bummer is I always forgot to take pictures, so I nicked off this picture from their Facebook page. The chicken is juicy and smelt great. It also didn't taste like frozen chicken. The coleslaw wasn't drowning in mayonaise and had bits of herbs in it while the mash potatoes was peppery with bits of chicken. The biscuit felt like a cross between a scone and a regular biscuit.  (from their fb page as well) For curiosity sake, I ordered a tiramisu for dessert. It came still kind of frozen and it was hard to dig in with a plastic fork. I had to let it 'melt' a little. It ain't bad but of course it lacked the coffee liquer to give it a real kick.  Another time that I went, I tried the Fish Bowl Rice. It was basically rice topped with fried fish and a special sauce. Just be careful of scalding yourself as the food is hot. I think the sauce somewhat overpowered the pieces of fish because it was too salty and peppery. The rice however, is quite a joy.  You wouldn't expect an American franchise to cook rice well. The rice was fluffy and each grain was long and fragrant. The portion was a little too big for me though so I ended up not finishing the delicious rice. I also ordered a cup of ice lemon tea but nothing out of the ordinary there.
