Sumptuous Sweets.
This little delight I created today: the rainiest day of the summer so far.
My family, co-workers and I needed something to brighten up the bleak weather conditions we endured for the better part of the day. I immediately jumped into the kitchen and looked at what we had: Nutella, frozen puff pastry, strawberries, oranges, heavy cream, vanilla... A chocolate hazelnut mousse was the answer to be sure! Orange zest, folded in whipped cream cheese, and topped with strawberries would brighten up even a torrential downpour! First, I thawed the puff pastry in the refrigerator and created the mousse. I made the mini tart shells by docking and scoring the now rounds of puff pastry. ![]() I then baked them and filled them with the finished and chilled mousse, sprinkling them with fresh sliced strawberry and orange zest. A sight for sore eyes on such a damp day, my family ate and requested more. I delightedly licked the final spoonfuls of mousse from the serving spoon. ![]() To make these Chocolate Hazelnut Orange Tarts You will need: 1 cup Nutella 1 egg yolk 1/4 cup softened cream cheese 3 tb butter 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 1 orange 1 cup sliced strawberries 2 tsp vanilla extract 2/4 cups confectioners sugar 1 sheet thawed puff pastry Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Cut and dock the pastry as seen above, making sure they remain flat in the middle during baking. Bake for about 10 minutes or until light brown and puffed, remove from the oven and let cool. Meanwhile, make the mousse. In a small saucepan combine the nutella and butter. Let this cool and then quickly whisk in the egg yolk! Quickly! No one likes scrambled egg mousse. In a separate bowl, put the vanilla, heavy cream, softened cream cheese, confectioners sugar and the zest of half the orange. Beat this until light and fluffy. Gently fold in the chocolate mixture. Set this in the fridge until nice and firm, but not hard. Assemble the tarts as above or however you like, but make sure you set a few aside because they are most addicting! I'll try these again maybe as one large tart in pie pastry, maybe add a glaze, maybe just make them as is! My father says that you should try them. That should be some incentive for you. Taste and please enjoy! -Megan.
