"The Buzz" - Olsen Family Winery
There are so many times when we go to a party, and they are just parties! Thank goodness, this was not one of those times. The Buzz held their monthly Wine Club Dinner on March 8 and again on March 9. Here is the
response from one of the participants, Stefan Schachtell, "Bob, It was great to allow me to share the table with you, Robin and the other lady (Jan) at the table. I had fun. As I mentioned last night, I was so impressed with Buzz (Christy) and her team to put on the wine dinner and what really impressed me, was the research she did on the winery. Even I learned something. The dinner was excellent, the wine selection was excellent, the atmosphere was excellent, the presentation was excellent and the company was more than excellent.I would say, the only negative, if one can call it a negative, is the the people in the back were talking while Christy did her presentation, and took a bit off the focus What can I say? Only, that I will be back with my wife at another dinner. Stefan New West Spirits, Inc 1602 W. Hays, #101 Boise, ID 83702 208.863.7663" And with that in mind, here is what we had for dinner and the wines to accompany the dinner. My scores are in (20), twenty being the highest. The next Wine Club Dinner will be on April 12th and repeated again on April 13th. This will be an extra-special night and it will sell out quickly. Get your reservations in early. Cheers! Cristi's Wine Choices Just one other thing for this post. I received from The Wine List - weekly wine newsletter from Food and Wine.NV Spaghetti Red (California) 13.6% alc, $10.00, (17) Serve with spaghetti or lasagna. Buy today and drink tonight. 2009 San Giorgia Pinot Gris and Garganege (Ancient Greek grape) Venezie, IT $10.00 (17) Pie cherry; serve with shellfish Appetizer Blarney Stone Appetizer 2008 Olsen Riesling 12.7% alc, $10.00, (17) Went great with this appetizer. Soup Irish Parsnip and Apple Soup 2008 Olsen Chardonnay 14.4% alc, $17.00, (15) Great soup and different. The wine did not hold up to this food. This would be better with a mushroom soup or Stuffed and Grilled Portabella Mushroom Caps. Main Course BBQ Corned Beef sweet-hot Whiskey glaze Whipped Potatoes Sweet and Sour Cabbage 2007 Olsen Red Table Wine 14.2% alc, $14.00, (16) Chocolate and vanilla on the nose. Good paring with the entree. Dessert Luck 'O The Irish Brownies 2008 Olsen Estate Pitit Verdot 14.4% alc, $45.00, (19) Finally, another winery that does not waste this grape on a blend! The other winery that I know of is Indian Creek Winery here in Idaho. And here's my bias: I rate the Indian Creek Petit Verdot a (20). The Olsen Estate Petit Verdot is probably more like a (19.8), but there is no allowance for such scores. Did I like it? You bet! Would we buy some? We did! Cristi's Cake King's Cake Great job with this King's Cake, Cristi! Thanks for sharing. Mourning a Legendary Vine Vandals in Austria recently destroyed an ultra-rare 500-year-old grapevine thought to be one of two that crossed to create zippy Grüner Veltliner. Yuk! The article did not say if the vandals were caught or not. Let's hope they were. See you at the Buzz next month or the Treasure Valley Wine Society Bordeaux Tasting tonight at 7:00pm. Cheers!
