The GFCF Review Experience: Mary's Gone Crackers Cracker Crumbs

By The GFCF Experience (Visit website)

Sometimes life gets in the way.

That's about the only way I can describe why it's been three weeks since I last posted. It's not that I haven't had things to talk about - I've been meaning to review these cracker crumbs for a while now, and there are a couple more reviews and recipes in the works - but it seems like other things pop up that need to be taken care of.

Like yard work (weeding, planting, mowing - it never ends!). And a business trip to Denver for a week. And getting the kids through the last week of school. And...you get the idea.

Admittedly, I've had my fair share of fun and games these last three weeks:

While in Denver, I watched the Colorado Rockies hit two home runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Red Sox. (Coors Field, by the way, is a great venue to watch a baseball game, and they have food stands that exclusively sell GF foods).

The photos above were taken by my friend Scott Copeland, who is an amazing nature photographer. I invite you to check out his photography at his website, Three Dog Light Photography. You will not be disappointed.

I also got to enjoy some solitude at Red Rocks before my meetings started a couple of mornings.

And the family and I had a great time exploring Garnet Ghost Town, about an hour east of Missoula. I wonder how many ghosts were there? Hmm...

And I would be remiss without mentioning my alma mater, the University of South Carolina, which just won the College World Series!!! Go 'Cocks!!!

But now it's time to get back to blogging, and talking about great GFCF foods. Like these cracker crumbs by Mary's Gone Crackers.

Back in April, I posted a recipe for chicken cordon bleu where I had ground up some of Mary Gone Crackers' herb crackers and mixed them with an equal amount of GF flour for the breading. As I mentioned in that post, my kids really do not care for the whole crackers (too strong a flavor for them) but really enjoyed them ground up and used as breading. Well, the folks at Mary's Gone Crackers found my post and mentioned to me that they sell cracker crumbs. When I told them that they were not available in my area, they sent me some to try!!!

The crumbs come in three flavors - original, savory, and caraway. So far we have tried the original and the savory, and I am really impressed with these products. The crumbs make a nice, consistent breading, which can be hard to obtain when you grind up the crackers yourself. As you can see from the pork chop photo, these products make a crispy golden brown crust. And the flavor is wonderful, especially the savory blend. Unlike the cordon bleu, I did not mix these crumbs with GF flour. I did that with the cordon bleu because I felt the cracker flavor might be a bit overwhelming for the kids. By contrast, the flavor of these crumbs was not overwhelming at all. In addition to the pork chops, I have also used them to make fried chicken, and both were a big hit with the rest of the family.

Like all of the Mary's Gone Crackers product line, these crumbs are made from organic ingredients in a dedicated gluten free facility.

I highly recommend that you give these cracker crumbs a try. And if you have already tried them, please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Thank you so much to the good people at Mary's Gone Crackers for their generosity in providing the cracker crumbs.
