Discover how to make homemade seasoning cubes: natural, full of flavor, and that last for months in the freezer

Making homemade seasoning cubes is a practical and healthy way to add flavor to everyday recipes, without relying on industrial products full of preservatives, colorings, and excess sodium. With some fresh ingredients, such as herbs, vegetables, and spices, it is possible to prepare a concentrated base that can be frozen in molds, resulting in ready-to-use cubes for soups, sauces, rice, or meats.

In addition to being more nutritious and natural, the homemade cube can be tailored to your taste, combining the seasonings and flavors you enjoy the most. It is a way to save money, avoid waste, and always have a quick ally on hand to transform any dish into something special.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 3 carrots (preferably organic)
  • 2 leeks (preferably organic)
  • 1 bunch of fresh parsley (or cilantro)
  • 9 oz mushrooms (in this case, button mushrooms)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of herbs
  • 1 aromatic bouquet (or sprigs of thyme, rosemary, etc.)

Preparation

  1. Wash and remove the ends of the vegetables. Peel the onion and garlic. Chop them coarsely.
  2. Chop the carrots, leeks, mushrooms, onion, garlic cloves, and parsley as finely as possible (this will minimize cooking time).
  3. Pour the olive oil into a pot. Add the vegetables.
  4. Mix.
  5. Add the seasonings and mix well. Place the aromatic bouquet.
  6. Cover the pot and cook for 30 minutes on low/medium heat, stirring regularly.
  7. Remove the bouquet and blend the mixture directly in the pot or transfer everything to a blender.
  8. Transfer to an ice cube tray and place in the freezer.
  9. Remove the cubes from the tray and transfer them to a freezer bag, keeping them in the freezer until ready to use.
  10. If you don't have an ice cube tray, transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Place the dish in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.
  11. Make cuts the size of cubes and place the baking dish in the freezer for 2 hours.
  12. Separate the cubes, transfer to one or more freezer bags, and store them in the freezer.
  13. You will have homemade broth cubes, without additives, ready to use all year round!
