Make barbecue sauce at home and turn every cut of meat into a mouthwatering, flavor-packed meal

Barbecue sauce is one of those classics that transforms any simple preparation into something full of flavor. With its balance between sweet, sour and smoky, it goes perfectly with meats, sandwiches and even vegetables, bringing a distinctive touch that makes all the difference.

Although it may seem ready-made or industrialized, making barbecue sauce at home is easier than most people think. With just a few ingredients and a few minutes on the stove, you can achieve a much tastier result, tailored to your taste and without complications.

Sauce ingredients:

  • 1/2 green bell bell pepper
  • 1/2 red bell bell pepper
  • 1/2 spring onion (green)
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (maizena)
  • A little vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. To start, chop the peppers and spring onions.
  2. Put them in a saucepan and heat over high heat, without oil. Add the 3 cloves of garlic and let them brown until they reach a barbecue flavor.
  3. In the blender jug, add the ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, oregano and paprika.
  4. When the vegetables are browned, pour them into the blender jug as well.
  5. Now blend the mixture in the blender until it forms a smooth paste.
  6. Add 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch.
  7. Blend well again.
  8. Sift to remove the lumps. Pour the contents back into the saucepan (not yet on the stove).
  9. Now add the other 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch, salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Now put it back on the stove over a medium heat, stirring with a whisk for ten minutes until the sauce is cooked.
