Apple Cake Squares Simple Recipe

I doubled this recipe and it came out terrific, put this in a brownie size pan. Cut it into squares. Great with ice cream, or just plain....a plain and simple dessert and perfect of  falloween!



1 cup sifted all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, ginger

1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted or shortening

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup white sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup chopped gala or mcintosh apples

1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts

optional:

2 tablespoons white sugar

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in preheated oven.  Cool in the pan, and cut into squares.
