Ash Wednesday

Not many of us know what is Ash Wednesday all about, nore why it actully followed. I heard from some of my friends that they go just coz its an obligation, parents or elders force you to. Some of the other faith guys whom I came across never knew that there was something like this.

I thought this would be the good day to share some knowledge, inputs of this day.

Ash Wednesay is the first day of Lent before Easter (40 days without counting Sunday). This day is consider holy by the all of the Christian brothers and sisters, who practice it by placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents as a sign of mourning and repentance to God.

The ashes are blessed according to various rites to each liturgical tradition, which invloves the use of Holy Water. A service is held in the church, which includes this ceremony, declaring the begining of the Lenten Season.
