CAMRA takes Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to Tribunal

It’s looking like 2010 will become the year of campaigning to saving the pub. The pub is a trade that continues to adapt in response to changes in the social life of modern Britain. However, it seems running a business and creating a valuable social space in the community is being attacked from all angles, by the government, and the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).

In July 2009, CAMRA submitted a complaint to the OFT stating our concern that the unfair operation of the “beer tie” by large pub companies is artificially inflating the consumer price of beer, reducing consumer amenity in pubs and increasing the rate of pub business failures, this also will directly affect where you can enjoy drinking real cider.

There are two ways you can show your support, by donating money, or by becoming a member. You will be helping cider producers, cider pubs and help CAMRA succeed in getting the OFT’s decision quashed and work towards getting the OFT to reconsider.
