Chobani Art
Our little trip to Santa Barbara was cut short because Michael has a horrible cold. He tried everything to feel better but colds this year are nasty. We had fun though — I plan on writing about the SB trip tomorrow. On a more positive note I want to thank Chobani Greek Yogurt for having me as a featured blogger! Here are some interesting facts about Greek Yogurt: The “Greek” in Greek yogurt is not an indicator of where the yogurt comes from, it indicates the process of how it is made. Chobani uses a unique straining technique that removes excess liquid from yogurt, giving it that characteristically thick and creamy consistency of Greek yogurt, but it leaves the whey protein intact in the yogurt. Removing the excess liquid from yogurt is what gives Greek yogurt its high protein content. A 6-ounce portion of low-fat plain Chobani yogurt contains 17 grams of protein! That’s similar in protein content to a 2.5 ounce piece of chicken. I just looked at the protein content of a very popular yogurt brand — it was 5 grams for a 6-ounce portion. The Chobani low-fat plain yogurt has more than triple the protein. Typically Greek yogurt is high in protein, low in sodium, and lower in carbohydrates, which makes it a healthy snack, meal, or ingredient in a recipe — especially for those trying to lose weight and for those with medical conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease. The low-fat plain Chobani yogurt has only 70 grams of sodium and 7 grams of carbohydrate. The carbohydrates in plain yogurt are from the naturally occurring sugar, lactose. I really like the fact that Chobani is all natural and contains NO artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or sweeteners. Their products also contain no antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones. The ingredient list of Chobani low-fat plain yogurt is simple: Cultured pasteurized non-fat milk, cream. Contains 5 live active cultures… That is it! Beautifully simple. Plain greek yogurt can be used in a variety of ways: A substitute for sour cream Added to cereal Mixed with dried fruits and nuts (I like to add blueberries, sunflower seeds, and a little honey) Used to make dips or dressings To thicken up sauces Added to smoothies Used in recipes (pancakes, waffles, muffins, cakes) Substitute for part or all of the butter and oil in recipes My favorite flavor of Chobani Greek yogurt is Pomegranate, sweetened with evaporated cane juice and pomegranate concentrate. Along with the health benefits of Greek yogurt, it also makes a fun project for kids. Because it is so thick you can make designs in the yogurt with dried fruits, fresh fruits, and nuts — and it stays in place. My son was making a design in his yogurt and called it his “Chobani Art.” If you haven’t tried Greek yogurt you are missing out… seriously. How do you use Greek yogurt? I look forward to your comments.
