Donuts
![]() I've been trying out different recipes ever since our Whole Foods stopped carrying Nutralicious donuts. We would always pick up a box to have in the freezer for special breakfasts or for our annual tree decorating at the zoo. Now I will never go back to buying donuts. This recipe is so simple, inexpensive and there is nothing like warm freshly made donuts! You know how Krispy Kreme puts on the hot donuts light?? As we were eating these we were joking that we should flip our outside lights on, that's how good these are! This is also something that is fun for kids, they can help cut the holes and shake the donuts when coating with sugar. All you need is some oil for frying. I used canola oil so there wouldn't be any trans fat. In addition you need to search your grocery stores for artificially flavored buttermilk biscuit dough in the refrigerated section. Most of the store brand biscuit dough does not contain milk or eggs. I use Jewel's store brand. Other than that you just need to make up some easy sugar mixes or glaze and you are done. Hot fresh donuts in no time! Donuts Ingredients: Canola oil for frying 2 packages of milk and egg free refrigerated biscuit dough 2 cups confectioner's sugar divided 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 3 tbsp. water 1 tsp. vanilla extract Directions: In a large pot add 2 inches of oil and heat to 350 degrees. Or you can use a deep fryer to do the job (I just may ask Santa for one now). While oil is heating prepare toppings. Use 1 cup of confectioner's sugar in a plastic container with a lid or a paper bag. To another container or bag add 1/4 cup granulated sugar and cinnamon. For glaze mix 1 cup of confectioner's sugar with water and vanilla until smooth. Next remove dough and lay out the dough pieces on a cutting board. Cut holes in the donuts using a small round cookie/fondant cutter, bottle cap or an apple corer (I used the apple corer). Save the holes you can fry those too. Add about four donuts to the oil and fry until golden then flip. This takes very little time and goes quickly. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain. They will look like this. ![]() Next add a few donuts to each of the containers of powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. Seal the container or bag and shake. ![]() Then they will look like this when you are done. ![]() To glaze just dip one side of the donut into the bowl of glaze and remove. Set them on a plate or tray so glaze sets. If you want more glaze dip them again after a few minutes. They will look like this. ![]() This recipe makes 20 small donuts. They taste best fresh and warm and should be eaten within a day. I guarantee that won't be hard to do! related searches : Donuts
