Grapefruit Gizmo Cocktail
This is a little cocktail I came up with on Saturday night when myself and super barman Mark Lynch were thinking up something to put on as a special for the evening in the restaurant we work in. I got the idea from a cocktail list I’d seen earlier in the day while eating lunch and wanted to go for a twist on the classic Cosmopolitan, so I replaced the cranberry juice with fresh grapefruit juice. At first this tasted good but was missing something so Mark suggested adding a dash of maraschino liqueur for sweetness and a bit of complexity and bam! We had it! So ladies and gents I present to you the Grapefruit Gizmo cocktail (sorry, forgot to get a pic of the actual cocktail). For this recipe you will need: Equipment ice cocktail shaker strainer (you can use a siv if you don’t have one) 50ml spirit measure peeler (only for the garnish) Martini glass Ingredients juice of 1/2 a lime juice of 1/2 a grapefruit 40ml x vodka (I use Stoli) 10ml x Cointreau or Triple Sec 10ml x maraschino liqueur Get a few cubes of ice into your Martini glass to chill it while making the cocktail. Get all the ingredients into a shaker, add ice and shake hard. Open the shaker and strain into the Martini glass (having removed the ice from it). Peel a small piece of grapefruit skin off and squeeze over the cocktail, twist and drop in. Easy! Be careful with the maraschino liqueur as it is very sweet and can unbalance your drink very quickly if too much is added. Now enjoy as many of these as you like as it won’t get sickly sweet on you after a couple like some cocktails do so you can drink them all night long. As I mentioned we had this as a special at Green 19 and everyone that had one (or more) loved them. If you’ve not checked out Green 19 you can see a quick review of the place here at Eat Magazine, a new publication of all things food and drink like in Dublin! related searches : Grapefruit
