IPhone Mommies with pre-schoolers..... this one is for you!!!

By BlessedwithGrace (Visit website)

I was recently approached about reviewing two new iPhone Apps for pre-school age children. I JUMPED at the opportunity. My daughter Gracie has been enjoying my iPhone for a while now. You may have seen another post where I wrote about our favorite pre-school iPhone apps. Anyway, I was provided the following iPhone apps for free. In exchange I agreed to review these apps on my blog.

First let me share some information about Tickle Tap Apps. I obtained this information from their website.
Tickle, Tap, Laugh and Learn Tickle Tap Apps are age-appropriate educational games preschoolers can play anywhere.

These apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch encourage learning through practice and exploration. All 10 apps in the series are designed to help children:

Improve coordination, concentration and motor skillsPractice preschool-level math, pattern, color and spatial conceptsTap into creativity and curiosity
Now, let me tell you about the two apps Grace and I have been enjoying.
Sound Shaker
Sound Shaker is recommended for ages 3 - 5. The listed goals for learning with Sound Shaker is to
learn about soundspractice listening skillsimprove concentrationHere is a description from the website: It lets children create and play with chime, whistle, drum, barnyard animal and mystery sounds by simply tapping and tilting. Repeated taps generate new sounds, while longer taps grow sounds and trigger surprise animations. Tilting makes sounds spin and collide in whimsical combinations.

Here is my review: First of all, Grace is only 2 1/2 and is more than ready to play this game. She figured it out without my explanation or instruction. With the tap of the screen, or swirl of her finger on the screen, Grace is creating sounds, rhythms and fun! Grace thoroughly enjoys playing Sound Shaker app. While driving in my car, she can play the app, in her carseat. It is fun for me to hear all the sounds and noises she is creating. It keeps her entertained and holds her attention. That's a winner to me!

Sort Slider
Sort Slider is the second app I reviewed. As with Sound Shaker, this app is recommended for ages 3-5.
Sorter Slider helps children:
learn about objectspractice matchingimprove concentrationHere is the description from the website:
Children match amusing items with an object?s silhouette?everything from umbrellas, flowerpots and pigeons to baseball caps. And it?s easy to make a match. Preschoolers simply tilt the device or touch and drag an object with their finger. Harvey the dog appears throughout the game to offer plenty of encouragement, making Sort Slider a highly entertaining way to learn about shapes.

Here is my review:
Again, Grace at 2 1/2, was ready for this app as well. I thought this one would take some explanation. I was wrong. Her little mind picked it up immediately. I love this app for Grace. She uses her finger to slide the object to it's matching counterpart. I can tell she is using critical thinking to figure out which objects match. When she has matched the correct objects, a voice will tell her she is correct, and tell her good job. It provide positive reinforcement, making her want to continue. The app keeps her attention and helps her with her matching skills. For her, it's just fun. She doesn't realize she is learning. I like that!!

Both apps are $1.99 each and can be purchased on iTunes. $1.99 is a typical price for these types of iPhone apps. I think it is appropriately priced. I definitely recommend these apps for your pre-schoolers.

Happy iPhoning!
