ON THE ROAD: A REVIEW OF JOHNNY ROCKETS

By SACRAMENTO BLOG UNCUT (Visit website)

Let me be very honest, from time to time I get really sick of Sacramento. On Saturday afternoon I couldn't take it anymore. I had to leave. It just was too much to handle. Perhaps it was my job or the tweaks on their 10 speed bikes with ape hanger handlebars going through my trash.

Or maybe it's California's 19.1 Billion dollar deficit with no fix in sight.

Quite possibly it's despite the crime in this town, the Mayor's feels it's more important to build a new arena for the Sacramento Kings.

Needless to say I just had to get out of Sacramento

So I packed a bag, hit the road & ended up at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. By the way, these days they don't call it Reno, they call it Northern Nevada.

So after a couple of hours on the road including light snow flurries, I check in to the hotel & hit the casino, trying to forget about my problems in Sacramento.

After a few hours I got hungry.

While the Grand Sierra has several restaurants, I was drawn to Johnny Rockets. This place had energy. It was time to eat some good American Comfort food.

So I walked in and had a seat at the counter. A beautiful lady named Tina greeted me with a big smile. Her black hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail. She along with the rest of the Johnny Rockets crew were all dressed in white uniforms. It was a blast from the past. It was like the 1950's. The place was jumping.

So I gazed at the menu & looked at the crew working the restaurant. I mean to tell you this crew was hustling. Hustle, hustle, hustle. They were putting out some orders. You could hear the deep fryers cooking the fries & the sizzling of the grill cooking the burgers.

Finally, I decided on the Route 66 Burger. The Route 66 was a 1/3lb burger with onions, tomatoes & Swiss cheese. It came with fries. I asked for a classic coke.

The burger was $8.99 & the classic coke was like $2.59. Come on, $2.59 for a fountain drink? That's a little steep, no?

Anyways, I will say that this was an excellent meal. Best of all Tina was an excellent server & hooked me up with a free drink refill.

The total for my meal was around $11.72. I left Tina $14.00 & told her to keep the change. She deserved it.

I give Johnny Rockets at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno 3 1/2 stars out of 4 stars.
