Pomegranates - golden seeds of health

By Lathas Corner (Visit website)

Pomegrantaes are the red looking fruits with as many pearls of health as possible inside the shell. From a distance it looks like an apple with a crown. The seeds / the pearls of pomegranates gives you a tangy sweet flavour plus a load of anti oxidants, that help prevent many diseases like Cancer and Heart problems.

While choosing pomegranates, choose the one which is heavier for its size, they will have more juice.

How to Open a Pomegranate

First, you have to slice off  the crown of the Pomegranate just at the top. Then slit the skin from the sides in to quarters just enough for you to see the white pith inside. You need not cut through the fruit as you might spoil the seeds and the juice.

Just pull open the skin of the quartered side and remove it. The seeds can be separated easily from the white pith. Gently pull back the skin of the segments and by using the two thumbs, push back the red pearls in to a bowl.

You can also immerse the four sections in a large bowl of water. The seeds will come out easily. You can strain the seeds and discard the pith and extra water.

How to Preserve Pomegranate Pearls

You can preserve the seeds in a zip foil / pouch and pack it up in the refrigerator. As a single person you will not be able to finish one pomegranate. You can store the rest or share with your friends.

Benefits of Pomegranate seeds
