September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
September is the National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. I wanted to take the oportunity to raise awareness of the risk factors and signs and symptoms of this deadly disease. Its proven that Ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system, yet it accounts for only about 3 percent of all cancers in women.Ovarian cancer is cancer that starts in the ovaries. The ovaries are the female reproductive organs that produce eggs. Early-stage ovarian cancer can cause symptoms, although these symptoms also occur with many other conditions. You should see your doctor if you have the following symptoms on a daily basis for more than a few weeks: Abdominal pressure, fullness, swelling or bloatingUrinary urgencyPelvic discomfort or painPersistent indigestion, gas or nauseaUnexplained changes in bowel habits, such as constipationChanges in bladder habits, including a frequent need to urinateLoss of appetite or quickly feeling fullIncreased abdominal girth or clothes fitting tighter around your waistPain during intercourse (dyspareunia)A persistent lack of energyLow back painChanges in menstruation For more information on ovarian cancer, please visit: American Cancer Society Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
