Snowflakes & Sushi
Seriously. Is. This. REAL?!
Yes. This is real. It really snowed. IN MAY.
What is UP with the weather this spring? We go from sunny & 75 to SNOW in one week!? Sheesh.
Well, in happier news, I have to share an excellent dining experience with you all. When I went downstate for my cousin Julies BABY shower, my aunt & uncle took my mom and I to THE.BEST. sushi place! Oishi in Novi, Michigan is a fabulous, dark, tantalizing little place featuring noodle bowls, great drinks, and- of course- sushi!
We started with a selection of appetizers, like the Gyoza- pork dumplings ($3.95!) Crispy outside, soft steamed inside, and a delicious teriyaki style dipping sauce. Perfect!
The Kimchi (korean style hot & spicy pickled cabbage- just $1.95!!) This to me tasted like cold cabbage doused in sriracha. I LOVE IT!
Classic Ginger salad ($1.95 again!) Simplest salad- iceberg & cukes, tossed in a savory dressing and topped with sweet, tangy grated ginger. I wanted to lick my bowl clean.
And- the table FAVORITE- Yasai Itame. AKA sauteed vegetables with garlic and asparagus. HEAVENLY! NOMMMMMMM! Everything was flash stir fried, so it was crispy and maintained its texture, and was coated in a light soy sauce. The large garlic chips permeated the flavor of everything else, but were so light! Definitely going to try recreating this bad boy at home.
For the MAIN, we split several sushi rolls & sashimi plates.
Pretty standard. Although the bit at the end with the BARBEQUED EEL was my favorite! Yum!
A sashimi plate- Mackeral, Blue Fin Tuna, Scallops, Tuna, and Jack Mackeral in the middle. I have never had scallop sashimi before, and it was FANTASTIC! Soo soft and buttery. The Mackeral was also tasty- kinda salty, but I liked it.
And finally, the crispy spicy tuna roll- So unique! Normally crispy rolls are tempura fried or have tempura batter something inside- this one was just topped with little crumbles of crispy tempura batter. And the spicy sauce on the inside was light- not super mayo-y like some can be.
All in all, I give Oishi ten thumbs up- for quality, service, taste, and wine service
