The weekend was great. I looked forward for the weekend before this, and now in a blink, I?m back to my normal routine of work, blogging, and housework. Time passes so quickly when you are enjoying yourself eh. After work, I travelled to St Austell in Cornwall for an overdue visit. I travelled on the train again for 2 hours heading south of England, on the way there, met up with another friend from Plymouth to go together.
Friday night was a steamboat night, been craving it for months now! So glad, I can finally have it! I?ve not had steamboat at least for 6 months ever since I left Bath you know. I know some people refer steamboat as HOT POT like the hongkies do. How about you? Do you call it steamboat or hot pot?

So the dinner was fab, but this time, we had it differently, my friend prepared 2 soupy bases, one vegetable plain soup, the other was pork rib porridge ? ?Zuk wo? (porridge steamboat), Most people have not heard of porridge steamboat, but in Malaysia, it is quite famous, they serve that in restaurants as well. I thought both were great, but my friends preferred the typical soup steamboat more. Feel free to share your way of having steamboat
Oh and if you noticed, we havn?t got the proper steamboat pot here, we had to use rice cookers hehe
thats how students abroad have steamboat, have you ever thought of that? Or you do that all time?

We had the usual stuff, meat balls, fish balls, spicy fish cake, seafood stick, Japanese tofu, assorted mushrooms, white lobak, thinly sliced beef (fei ngao) ? this is one we rarely have in Malaysia, but it is a ?must have? for the hong kies. For the sauce, instead of sweet sauce (tim zhiong) or chillie sauce, we had BBQ sauce (sa cha zhiong) mixed with bird?s eye chilli, chopped garlic and soy sauce. The soy sauce is heated in a pan with lots of sugar. It may sound like a strange combination, but it is absolutely delicious. I can?t have steamboat without that sauce, credits to my hongkie friend, who is great at making this. Some of them like to add a raw egg with the sauce, but I don?t fancy that, too slimy for me
hehe. We were so full at the end; we did not even eat any vegetables! Again, it?s the hong kie?s eating habbit, of having vegetables at the very end!!

It was a great and satisfying meal!! We then ended the night with lots of catching up, gossiping whilst playing ?chor tai tee?, finally we K.O at 4am!! All in all , a great night.
