Baked figs with goat cheese and honey: the perfect seasonal recipe to enjoy in September

No need for anyone to ask me or for there to be an official ranking, but for me September has an undisputed protagonist in my kitchen: figs, especially when they are baked with goat cheese and honey. During the summer I have enjoyed fresh salads, improvised ice cream and juicy peaches, but when figs arrive, everything else takes a back seat.
As a child, we ate them straight from the fruit bowl, with no more ceremony than slicing them in half and savoring them slowly. That simplicity is still perfect, but when I want to give them a more special touch or surprise the family, I like to turn on the oven and play with a couple of additions that transform them: goat cheese, honey and a bit of aromatic herbs.
The fun is in the simplicity. A few cuts, a few minutes of heat and the fruit becomes a warm and mellow bite, with the melted cheese and honey enveloping it all. It is one of those recipes that needs no frills: few ingredients, minimal effort and a result that transforms the everyday into something memorable.
What you need for this fig recipe
- 4 figs
- goat cheese
- honey
- rosemary
- sesame seeds (optional)
How to prepare the recipe, step by step
- Turn on the oven and bring it to 390°F/200°C.
- Open the figs by making a cross cut on the top.
- Stuff them with half a slice of goat cheese, add a trickle of honey and some fresh rosemary.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the surface.
- Bake for 5 minutes at 390°F/200°C and serve immediately. Ready!
Practical tips to get the most out of them
- The ideal pairing: These figs go well with aromatic white wines and light sparkling wines; if you serve them as a dessert, a Moscatel or Pedro Ximénez will enhance their character even more.
- Serve the figs freshly baked: The contrast between the warm fruit, the melted cheese and the sweet touch of honey is what makes this recipe so special. Ideally, remove them from the oven just before taking them to the table.
- Starter or dessert? They have the versatility to adapt to both options: as an elegant tapa at the beginning or as a sweet and original closing of the meal.
- Also in air fryer. If you don't want to turn on the oven, 5 minutes at 350°F/180 ºC are enough to obtain the same effect: melted cheese, shiny honey and a perfect bite.

A recipe that never fails
It's a winning combination: the mellow sweetness of the figs, the creamy intensity of the goat cheese and the warm glow of the honey. When brought together in the oven, these three ingredients become more than the sum of their parts: a warm and fragrant bite that plays with the contrast between the soft and the intense and the sweet. How do you usually cook them? Did you like this idea?
