An unusual Pokémon "object" that defies market standards
In the world of Pokémon, Charizard is more likely to be seen on extremely rare cards. A simple Cheetos with its shape, nicknamed " Cheetozard ", sold for the astronomical sum of $87,840(Gizmodo). Unlike traditional, carefully illustrated and printed cards, this atypical food item captivated fans with its uncanny resemblance to the famous fire-type Pokémon. This auction demonstrates once again the growing craze for unusual items linked to the Japanese franchise and one of its most beloved Pokémon!
An unlikely discovery turned viral phenomenon
The story of the "Cheetozard" begins between 2018 and 2022, when it was discovered and preserved by Georgia-based specialty store 1st & Goal Collectibles(Gizmodo). Originally a simple snack from the "Flamin' Hot Cheeto" range, this chip quickly caught the attention of Pokémon enthusiasts on social networks. The rise of Pokémon card collecting in recent years, combined with interest in eccentric collectibles, helped explode its notoriety. Influential Instagram accounts dedicated to rare cards and items have largely contributed to its popularization, propelling its value to the top of auctions.
A record sale for an anonymous collector
Put up for sale by Goldin, a platform specializing in collectibles auctions, this unusual chip found a buyer whose identity remains unknown(Gizmodo). To preserve this precious find, the new owner was also given a personalized Pokémon card designed to hold the Cheetos, as well as a storage box to protect the object from heat and humidity. These precautions are essential to ensure the preservation of the "Cheetozard", a food whose natural fragility contrasts with its priceless value. In fact, Gizmodo estimated the value of Cheetos at around $29,000 per inch, adding a touch of irony to this unusual transaction.
