Turn a can of sardines into a restaurant-worthy pâté (simple, cheap and ready in 5 minutes)

Who says that a simple can of sardines can't become an appetizer worthy of praise? With just a few ingredients and almost no effort, you can turn this pantry classic into a creamy, tasty pâté that looks (and tastes!) like it came from a restaurant. Ideal for serving with bread, toast, accompanying a salad or even impressing on your next snack board. The best part? It's ready in 5 minutes, super affordable and will win over even those who turn up their noses at sardines. Get ready to change your mind and your level.

The ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • ½ teaspoon of mustard
  • 1 oz of pickles
  • 1 can of sardines (5 oz)
  • 1/4 red onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • drops of lemon
  • salt (to taste)
  • drops of Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Chop the onion, tomato and pickle into small cubes. Set aside. Drain the liquid from the can of sardines and mash with a fork. Set aside.
  2. Put the mayonnaise, lemon drops and olive oil in a bowl. Mix lightly with a fork until smooth.
  3. Add the two reserved parts and mix with a fork.
  4. Add a few drops of Worcestershire sauce (optional). Season with salt to taste. Mix again.
  5. As a relaxed appetizer, simply place in a smaller bowl and serve with toast. As a starter, place the rim on the plate and put this pâté inside. Squeeze with a spoon, for example, and remove the ring.
  6. You're done!
