*Oriental Fajitas

By Neo-Homesteading (Visit website)

This is another supper I created that started with a sauce. As I've said in the past my husband and I are absolute sauce fanatics so I brainstorm about what sauce would be good to create next and from there recipes are formed. I made this orange chili sauce originally with chicken in mind but it somehow morphed into these beauties, Oriental fajitas. So yummy! The sauce is made with multiple chili sauces, honey, and of course lots of orange zest. Its a very zippy and wonderful sauce and marinade with very concentrated flavors. For the fajitas I marinaded steaks over night and grilled them to perfection. Served with peppers, onions, sour cream and of course mandarin pancakes. Its a really great twist on standard fajitas, I sure did love them.

Oriental Fajitas:
4-6 medium sized steaks, about or 1 1/2 pounds of flank steak. (I used chuck steaks)
1/2 cup orange chili sauce
1/2 cup water
1-2 cups sliced peppers and onions saute'd

In a zip tight bag or air tight container combine chili sauce and water. Place steaks in this and marinate over night. To prepare the steaks grill or broil on high 2-4 minutes on each side, this will vary depending on the size of your steaks and how well done you want them. I cooked mine to about medium.

Allow the steaks to rest at least 5 minutes. While the meat is resting I saute my peppers and onions. slice the steak into strips and combine with peppers and onions. Pour any juices over top of the fajita mixture. Toss in 1-2 tablespoons of orange chili sauce.

Serve with mandarin pancakes , reserved orange chili sauce and sour cream.

Orange chili sauce-
1 tablespoon sambal oelek chili paste
1 tablespoon sriracha chili sauce
3 tablespoons orange zest (I used one very large orange)
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons seasoned rice vinegar
3/4 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon ginger paste or grated ginger
1 teaspoon chili oil (*optional, this is what takes it from hot to HOTTER)

Combine ingredients and microwave on high about one to two minutes. (You can do it in a sauce pot as well. ) You want to warm the mixture primarily to marry the flavors. Place in the refrigerator until needed will store up to a month.
