Cassava fries in the air fryer
Here's an original and tasty side dish: cassava fries! This versatile and tasty tuber is a culinary treasure in Latin America, where it is enjoyed in a wide variety of forms such as breads, arepas, and sometimes even as a dessert. Among all these variations, our favorite is clearly the preparation in French fries, but which is often not the healthiest... For that, don't panic, get out your air fryer to prepare ultra-crisp, low-fat French fries! :-)
Ingredients
Materials
- Stockpot
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Bowl
- Air fryer
- Oil spray (or oil + kitchen brush)
Preparation
Peel the cassava with a sharp knife and cut into large pieces.
Place the cassava pieces in a large pot with enough water to cover them. Bring the water to the boil and cook the cassava for 10-15 minutes, or until tender but not too soft (to avoid disintegration in the air fryer).
Drain the cassava and leave to cool. Cut into finer sticks and place in a bowl. Add olive oil, salt, garlic powder and paprika. Mix well.
Lightly grease the air fryer with a little oil using a spray or brush. Place the cassava French fries, making sure they don't touch.
Cook cassava French fries at 390°F/200°C in "Air Fry" mode for 10-15 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
Carefully remove the basket and let the fries rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow them to cool slightly and stay crisp longer. Enjoy your meal!
Observations
Can I freeze cassava fries to store and reheat them later?
We recommend that you freeze cassava fries after boiling and before putting them in the air fryer. This way, you can prepare several portions and have them ready in the freezer to fry in the air fryer whenever you like! Cooking time will be a little longer, however, as the fries will be frozen.
Can I add extra spices to my fries?
Yes, you can add other spices to give them a different taste. Cumin and cayenne pepper are good options, but you can also try herbs such as oregano, coriander, garlic powder and turmeric, among others.
What sauces should I use to accompany cassava French fries?
You can accompany them with a variety of sauces, such as guacamole, tomato sauce, chilli sauce, yoghurt sauce or peanut sauce. Choose your favorite!
Is it possible to prepare this recipe in the oven instead of the air fryer?
Yes, you can prepare cassava French fries in the oven. To do so, place the cassava fries on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Then bake them at a temperature of 390°F/200°C for 15-20 minutes, or until golden and crisp on the outside.
