Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel ? 7.5/10
I just came back from a 2 days conference held by my company in Marriott Royal Hotel, Bristol. I just want to give you a brief review of what I think of the hotel room and the food served.
I stayed on the second floor, room 1228.The room was spacious and clean, and very well furnished. It was a double bedroom with a very comfortable bed, pillows were ok, but according to one of my friends who stayed in a different room, the pillows were uncomfortable and affected her sleep. However it was alright for most of us. There is also a 3 seater sofa in my room, a working desk, a flat screen tv, an ironing board, and a fridge. The bathroom had a bath tub which was good if you want to soak yourself in a nice bath after a tiring day of work or just for pleasure. However I have to say the room was a little too old fashion for my liking, compared to Radisson Hotel and Mercure Hotel, which was so much more modern.
The hotel is very centrally located, next to the hotel is Bristol cathedral, walking distance to the water front and Cabot Circus, the main shopping mall in Bristol. They also have a 24 hour room service, and a high speed internet. They have got large halls for events that can accommodate up to 260 people and smaller meeting rooms as well. They had very good sound system, a huge screen and a little stage in front on the room. The coffee and tea, and the little tit bits e.g. cheese puffs, pastries, and chocolate brownies that we had during breaks were great.
The lunch served for both days were buffet style, with some desserts and fruits as well on the sides. I thought the lunch on the 1st day was very delicious, I had beef stew with mash potato, carrots, pizza, and some cured ham. The 2nd day lunch was more of an oriental style, which I thought tasted funny, I had some noodles which was fairly sweet and had lots of sesame seed, mushrooms with some mustard/vinegar-ish gravy, and some chicken breast with beans and lots of peppers which is not my favourite too.
For the gala dinner on the 1st night there, I had a 3 course meal, Caesar salad as starter, Salmon in creamy sauce for main, and apple pie for dessert. I?m not sure how much it cost because the company sponsored us. The food was so-so, which was pretty much expected before that. I thought the apple pie was the best though.
What I liked most was the breakfast, eventhough I was in a hurry, I enjoyed it. I had the typical English breakfast with baked beans, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon and a croissant, and also an omelette with onions, ham and cheese and apple juice.
All in all, I?d say it is very comfortable, and location is great for tourist. But if you are a young couple, you might find it a bit too old fashion, anyway you can tell from the pictures, if you are ok with the furnishing style, then everything else is good. Just one more thing to add, they have only recently done some refurbishments in 2008, whether to all the rooms or not, I am not sure. I?d rate it 7.5/10.
