Finish your meal with a digestif straight from Ireland: Irish coffee! To make it, you'll need coffee (of course!), whisky, cane sugar, and whipped cream. A little history: Irish coffee was created in Ireland's airports to warm up passengers whose flights had been cancelled. Today, it's one of the country's most popular beverages and internationally renowned. You too can try it:

  • Irish coffee (coffee with whisky and whipped cream) - Preparation step 1Combine the sugar and whisky. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds.
  • Irish coffee (coffee with whisky and whipped cream) - Preparation step 2Meanwhile, prepare the coffee (it should be at the same temperature as the sweetened whisky). Carefully pour the coffee into the glass containing the sugar and whisky mixture (for distinct layers, see observations).
  • Irish coffee (coffee with whisky and whipped cream) - Preparation step 3For the whipped cream: whip the cream until airy. ►Tip: it must be 30% fat (otherwise it won't rise) and your utensils must be cold (which will help the cream rise faster). Place the whipped cream on top of the coffee.
  • Irish coffee (coffee with whisky and whipped cream) - Preparation step 4Finish the presentation by sprinkling chocolate shavings on top. Add a straw and serve!

Observations

How to create distinct layers: You need to bend a small spoon, forming a 90° angle. Then carefully pour the coffee over the whisky using the convex side of the spoon.

Whipped cream: Place the cream in the refrigerator as soon as you have the utensils ready to prepare the whipped cream.
