Foodie Find: Wisconsin Natural Acres Honey
When I come across something special, I love to share it with others. This is one of those times! I was recently introduced to a delicious honey by Wisconsin Natural Acres (http://www.wnacres.com/). It came just in the nick of time too--I was nursing a cold and drinking lots of hot tea. The makers say their honey is all natural, never heated or filtered, never mixed with foreign or out-of-state honeys. That's a good thing. Also, its nectar source is from alfalfa, basswood and clover. Just sounds healthy, doesn't it?:) Bottom line: this is a pure product. That explains the price: $8.95-$21.95, depending on the size of the jar. If you're into honey, I think you'll find the taste is worth it. The thing I like about this honey is that it is sweet without being cloyingly sweet--I don't go into a sugar coma after consuming it. That alone is enough to give it the thumb's up. But I also like this honey because it goes well with recipe cooking--meaning it's an ingredient that doesn't overwhelm a dish with its sweetness. I made these honey chicken wings using a recipe Wisconsin Natural Acres gave to me. So if you were thinking of borrowing some of my honey, sorry folks, you have to get your own:) Here's the recipe and photo below: HONEY CHICKEN WINGS Recipe courtesy of Wisconsin Natural Acres Ingredients 2 pounds chicken wings Salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup soy sauce 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (I actually left this out--really didn't need it) 2 tablespoons ketchup (I made this 3--I really like ketchup in my sauce) 1 garlic clove, minced Instructions Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Line a large pan with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Place wings on prepared pan; set aside. Combine honey, soy sauce, vegetable oil, ketchup and garlic; mix well. Pour mixture over the wings and bake in oven for 45 minutes, basting occasionally. (Alternative: I cooked the wings first without the sauce because I like my wings crispy, then added the sauce at the end.) related searches : Foodie
