Kitchen Tip Tuesday: Bulk Food Storage

By The Local Cook (Visit website)

I’ve blogged before about my dilemma with storing bulk flour and such. I finally found my solution–plastic containers from Gordon Foods. They are professional food grade, and super inexpensive. Yay!

I bought a label maker so I can keep everything straight, and learned a helpful tip: Do not just put the label on the lid. Put it on the side too. Because if you’re in the middle of baking, it’s easy to forget which lid goes with which container.

The other tip I thought of is if you buy items in plastic bags (which is how a lot of my specialty flours come in at the health food store), you can carefully peel it off and re-stick it to the plastic container.

Finally, I have also used large empty cardboard boxes from Costco to organize my various kitchen tools on shelves. Just slap a label on the side and my popcorn box is now a holder for my mixer accessories. And it’s free!
