Not gonna get me down
So I had shingles (and all the side effects that come with it) for almost three weeks. I had no energy, felt sick all the time and spent an entire weekend in bed. YUCK! Last night I vowed to rejoin the land of the exercisers and this morning my alarm went off at 5:35 as a depressing reminder. I drug myself out of bed at 6:00 and took the few steps to my living room. I didn’t feel like working out at all, but I knew that I would continue to feel blah and cranky if I didn’t get back into it. So I pushed myself through a hard and (sadly) difficult sweat session. It’s a work out I’ve done before and the last time I did it – let’s just say – it was MUCH easier. For breakfast I indulged a little. At breakfast yesterday morning I got a free bagel with my MyPanera card. So I made my choice and saved it for this morning. I heart the pink ribbon bagellike nobody’s business and you can only get it during the month of October. I enjoyed my last one on November 1st. With a Chicago mug of orange juice. Then it was go, go, go to get the girls ready and off to school. My mornings should TOTALLY count as a work out!! We’re trying something new at the deli this week and appreciating a very large company that brings us a TON of business every day. Each employee that came in, showed us their ID badge and spent $5.00 got one of these babies FREE! I had to taste the merchandise…of course. It was pumpkin spice and was heavenly. After a balls to the wall Monday I scarfed down a bowl of fire roasted tomato soup with lots of crackers. Normal people get off work, go home and do things like make dinner, do dishes or veg in front of the television. NOT ME! I go to my daughter’s school (also my former employer) and bake cookies while Linsey does homework. Once the cookies were done baking (it was premade cookie dough that we’re selling for a fundraiser) I got to sit at the information table giving out free samples of said cookies to parents as they picked up their children for the evening. We didn’t leave to go home until 6:00 and by them I was too pooped to poop…or cook. So dinner was simple. I made a roasted asparagus and hummus wrap. Linsey and Regan griped about having to eat asparagus, but once they knew cookies were waiting for them for dessert (not the ones from Regan’s school) they ate with less complaining. Not only did I walk away from Bread Co yesterday with a free pink ribbon bagel; the girls walked away with a free bag of shortbread cookies. The manager, Daniel, has gotten to know us (how can you NOT when our children are so loud unbelievably cute) and gave them an early trick or treat – treat. We each had one and saved the last one for Jason. Now we’re snuggled up in my bed watching Annie for the gazillionith time and I need to put them in bed, but I’m toasty warm in my flannel Victoria’s Secret pajamas. Regan’s snoring on my shoulder so maybe it’s time to move. Nighty Night… Those who suffer belong to all of us. And if all of us respond, there is hope. ~ Author Unknown
