Our Easter Project

By Living with Food Allergies and Celiac Disease (Visit website)

Moving from one house to another is an experience in itself.  For most, it takes awhile to get settled in and once you have lived in your home for period of time, you begin to see everything that needs to be done.  In our case, there is a lot that needs to be taken care of.  Our 'yard' is one of the things on our 'to-do' list.

My mother always had flowers in her yard, and I carried that trait over to my family.  Our yard, as it is now, is very bla, and definitely needs some color.   When we first viewed this house, one of my first comments was "This yard is going to take some work!"

When you least think that your spouse/significant other is paying attention to you...they probably hear you loud and clear!  For months I have been talking about cleaning out this area that was so over grown with trees and weeds and making it into a flower bed (which I will refer to as 'my court yard' for all practical purposes).  I look at an area and envision 'what' it would look like with a little work...well, more like a lot of work!

At any rate, we all got up early yesterday thinking we were going to work on the vegetable garden.  Don't you bet it was a surprise to me to find out Joel had other plans!

For any of you who have been following my blog, you are aware that Michaela's doctor has suggested I push her out of her comfort zone.  She was not so happy with me yesterday morning when I practically chased her out of the house.  "I'm allergic to all that stuff!"  she said.  My reply?  "Wear gloves!  If you have a reaction, we have your medicine you can take.  If it's a bad reaction, I'll use your Epi-pen!"  She did come out but as you can see, I got the evil eye for quite awhile!

Slowly, but surely, she began to get more involved in what she was doing and forgot about being so angry with me and she had fun.  We all did.  It's great to have a chore that everyone in the family can partake.

Josh is a hard worker when he wants to be, but he likes to grumble the whole time.  For the most part, both kids get a long great, but sometimes they have to argue.  On occasion, I will intervene.  Other times, I just go out of 'ear shot' so I don't have to listen to it giving them the opportunity to find a way to work it out on their own.   Since the sun was starting to hit on that area of our yard, this was one of those times ( I am allergic to the sun and can't spend a lot of time in direct sunlight ).

There are several other areas in our yard that needed weeding, so I ventured somewhere that offered more shade.

Our dog, Rowdy.  A cross between Rotty and Aussie, a loyal friend.

'Hey Rowdy, let's take a little Ciesta while no one is watching..."

Back to the court yard...doesn't look like she is having fun yet.
Okay, now I'm starting to get a little smile...
And I see she shed her gloves...imagine that.

Lettuce anyone?  Yes, when I am not blogging, billing, or face-booking it, I am planting stuff...anything.  In this case, I have 3 boxes of lettuce that needs to be transplanted into raised beds, which by the way, are not built yet.
Dill, which is progressing nicely.  It will not need to be transplanted and I'm eager for it to reach it's peak.  Fresh veggies and dill dip?
One of my absolute favorite is Chives!  I can find a use for this herb in just about everything I cook and never seem to have enough!

Today, we will finish up the Courtyard and it will be ready for flowers!  Can't wait to see it finished.
It's funny how when you take on a project you find out things about yourself and your family.
1.  My daughter has a soft spot for gardening as I do.
2.  My son can accomplish quite a bit with the right motivation.
3.  I am out of shape and seriously need to lose some weight (too many Christmas cookies???)
4.  My husband really does hear me when I speak :)

I hope everyone has a wonderfully blessed Easter as I have!
