Portuguese Egg Tart
![]() Portuguese egg tart as we Malaysians called it has another name, Pastel de Nata. A little history about these goodies. They were believed to be created in the 18th century by Catholic monks at the Portuguese monasteries. Later, it was brounght to Macau and Hong Kong which only then became famous in Malaysia and Singapore in the 1990s. I could still remember when I was young, my mum used to prepare lunch boxes for me to bring to school. Well, it wasn't really lunch. It was just a short break, which our school used to call it rehat or reccess time. Sometimes mum will drive me to Gold Vision, a cake shop quite famous in Ipoh and buy some of these. They weren't authenthic Portuguese Egg Tarts compared to those sold in Macau ones of course, but it was still good, especially when they came piping hot from the oven. The difference between these tarts and Hong Kong Egg Tart I think lies in the pastry and the appearance. These are made from slightly more puffy pastry and has a creme brulee look. It depends on individual preference for which type of tarts you prefer. I like them both ! Haha, so greedy ! related searches : Portuguese
